DIRECT TV/SATELLITE SPLIT help….?
Ok, 1st post, but this looks to be a good site.
I am a computer guy so hopefully I can speak on satellite stuff.
I saw numerous posts on splitting a satellite signal.
Here is my setup:
Direct TV Dish with 2 boxes inside.
I have a wiring closet where all rooms that used to have cable come into.
In this closet I see the wiring (big cable) coming in for Direct TV and the wire is split/cut
one connection going to the bedroom cable and one to the den cable.
Here is what I would like to do:
I’d like my upstairs (no box) to be able to receive the signal from whatever is showing in the bedroom.
i.e. I just want to be able to watch/listen upstairs with the same show in the bedroom (I know I will not be able
to change the station or volume upstairs).
I tried a basic splitter in the closet for the bedroom and the existing upstairs cable, but, the receive couldn’t
get a signal then.
So, what are my options (dumb it down for me…)
You have to get your signal from the output of one of the boxes inside. There are two ways to do this: Use the video (composite) or the RF (ch 3 or ch 4) to send the signal to the TV upstairs. If you have cable installed from either of the receiver box locations back to the cable closet, then use that to carry the video or RF signal from the receiver to the closet. Then use a barrel connector in the closet from that cable to the upstairs. (You are better off using video than RF, but the installed cable can carry either.)
The problem you will have is controlling the box from the upstairs (to change channels). You can use an IR remote control extender for that purpose. I have used this one http://www.smarthome.com/_/ProductResults.aspx?Ntt=powermid
