can a 42″ lcd be mounted on a wall that has studs 34″ apart?
is it safe to mount a 96lb lcd tv on studs that are 34″ apart? This greater than normal distance between studs is as a result of a built in gas fireplace chimney that has been drywalled overtop. there is one cross beam that goes between the two main studs.
if its is safe and the lcd wont fall – does anyone know of a mounting bracket that is wide enough to take bolts 34′ apart. most are much smaller.
34″ thats crazy. ne way what i would do is screw a board (2×4) thats about 35″ or so wide to the wall securing it in the studs, then you can secure the wall mount to that. and it will be safely secured to the studs. you may want to use another 2×4 about a foot or so below the first so you can secure the wall mount to that as well ( based on the pattern of your particular wall mount), cause most wall mounts need both to secure to. this will make your lcd stick out alittle due to the added 2×4 but it will secure it to the studs and will be as safe as you can get. you might want to use alittle thinner board instead of a 2×4 so it wont stick out as far it will still be allot safer than securing to drywall, i would not suggest securing it directly to the drywall using any type of fasteners thats just not safe, drywall is not that strong,good luck
