Which TV is the best? Plasma, CRT Rear-Projection,or LCD flat panel?
I need to buy an HDTV, and I want 1080p for my PS3 because PS3′s quality on a regular TV is extremely poor. I did a lot of research and it comes down to 3 tvs. Should I choose the $4500 Pioneer Elite Pro-FHD1 Plasma, 50″ 1080p (This TV is on sale. Original Price is $5500) with stand and speakers included. The $4000 Sony 52″ KDL-52XBR3 or the $900 Philips 60″ 60PP9200D37 CRT Rear projection 1080p. I’ll use them mainly for movies and sports, occasionally for gaming and seldom for news (cbs, nbc etc.) Which TV produces the best picture, most accurate color temp, easiest to calibrate and has the least problems?
You should absolutely positively definitely choose the Pioneer Pro FHD1. Just go to Best Buy stores and look at it. You’ll be blown away by the stunning and amazing picture and color accuracy of it. Sony is good but the CRT is average. The black levels of that Plasma is comparable to the blacks of CRT (the king of blacks) with excellent shadow detail. The blacks of the Sony 52″ isn’t as deep as plasma and CRT, and it may have the “clouding” or uneven backlighting issue. Cnet uses the Pioneer Pro FHD1 for reviewing other TV as a reference source because it is the best TV ever! You don’t need to calibrate it because, out-of-the-box, it is already calibrated by ISF CCC Video Calibration professionals. Just don’t watch tv programs with company logo in it because it might get burnt in on the screen. SD will look worse on this TV than the regular TV because that’s the nature of HDTV. Cnet review on this tv states that “One other important note: we recommend avoiding feeding the Pioneer any kind of 480i signal. Via both HDMI and component-video, we observed significant softness in the television’s horizontal resolution on grayscale patterns (such as the first color bar pattern from HQV or the staircase from the Sencore VP403 generator), which appeared downright blurry. This issue does not affect 480p, 720p, or either of the 1080 resolution sources; just 480i. If you’re connecting this set to a progressive-scan DVD player, you should set it to progressive mode, or use a player that upconverts to 1080i or 1080p resolution. ©”. Anyway why whould someone watch SD on an expensive TV. Expensive TV’s are for HD only. That’s why millions of people miffled at poor picture quality of their HDTV.
