How to build a shelf?
First of all i would like to thank all of those who are reading this and are gonna help me.Basicly i trying to build a shelf to put my home theature receiver,dvd player,x-box and cable box.I already have a 42″ plasma tv mounted on the wall and this is gonna be below it.An example of my vision is found in this pic http://tinyurl.com/dztlr
Here are the specs -
Total weight of all the sound eqmnts – 40lbs *but i would like it support double that amount because i would like place some decor on the shelf as well.
The height i am looking @ is 8 inches
Depth – 18 inches
Width – is something i am still trying to decide but it might be 7 to 6 ft or maybe 6.5ft
I was thinking of getting popular wood and using that to construct my shelf.Now i need to expert advice on how to make strong enought to support my contents and it is gonna be mounted to my wall on to the studs.What advice and tips and you all can provide me will be very helpful.Thank you all!
i would use 3/4″ plywood for the shelves, sides, and top. Under each of the shelves use a 2×2 under the front and in the middle and secure well to the sides. That should hold quite well for what you need.
