how do dvd recorders work?
Hi, i have questions on how a dvd recorder works?
i’m thinking of getting a vcr/dvd recorder combo unit for my mom for christmas.
1) do you have to pay a monthly fee to use, i know comcast offers dvr service but its $10 a month so i wanted something she didn’t have to pay monthly.
2) if you record to a regular dvd (not rewritable), can you record a show, watch it and so on and then continue recording on the dvd until its full? or once you record something, is the dvd done? for that reason, does it make more sense to spend the money on RW dvds and if so how many times can your record over a RW dvd?
3) the main goal is to record from tv to dvd, the recorder is tunerless, she has a comcast cable box but not HD digital cable, will the box be ok to use as the tuner to use to record from tv?
4)can you watch a show and record another at the same time?
5) if I buy a stand alone dvd recorder, can you connect to the vcr and record vcr tapes to dvd?

Get CD-RW’s if you want to recorded over it many times if you want to record something to save forever, get DVD-r’s. VHS tapes work great too.

You have to use the cable box as a tuner
