Endless Radio Transmission Phenomenon?

By accident I happened across a website with a large list of .WAV files of audio loops, created from ‘ghost’ transmission heard over the radio. These loops varied in style, age, region and length…but what was similar to all is the distinct impression they were not current messages or transmissions. The original audio is extremely grainy. Some had period music of the early 1900′s (European mostly), some sounded like propagaanda and some sounded like distress signals. Think ‘Russian Woodpecker’ for reference. They were haunting and quite creepy.
I know I’m not mistaking it for EVP. But I don’t know where to look next. Someone I posed the question to suggested what I was describing shared a theme with the popular TV show ‘LOST’…

What is this phenomenon called? What was the website I found?

It is possible that you are thinking of the phenomenon of ‘long delay radio echoes’. This topic is discussed here -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_delayed_echo

As an amateur radio operator I regularly hear radio echoes delayed by a fraction of a second. It takes 1/7 sec for a signal to go round the world, making multiple reflections from the ionosphere like sound in a whispering gallery. Other shorter paths can also produce shorter delays. For example a sig can go up into the ionosphere, bounce back down again, and then come back by an identical route, having been reflected or scattered off the ground or sea where it landed the first time. These echoes are particularly noticeable on morse signals, and are a sure indication of strong propagation conditions over certain routes.

But there have been reports of much longer delays, perhaps of several seconds. These are difficult to explain, but the reports seem to be convincing and several possible explanations have been suggested. It’s a fascinating topic, and I expect that if you google ‘long delay radio echoes’ you will find a lot being said about it….

But another possibility is that you have got into some completely wierdo paranormal website which is just talking nonsense and making a fool of you.
