Why isn’t my DTV working on my new TV?

I recently just bought a new 32 inch LCD HDTV Vizio with built in tuner from Walmart. It was refurbished, it was the only one left they had in the back. They said any problems I had, I could bring it back within 90 days or the end of the warranty and I could exchange it for a new one.

Well the DTV will not pick up any over the air digital or high definition channels. I have my cable running to my VCR to the back of the TV because the cable cord is not long enough, the guide said that shouldn’t be a problem. My friend has regular cable running to his Vizio, the exact same kind and he gets the digital channels. What’s wrong?
